This plant-based Ninja Creami ice cream recipe is based on my favorite morning drink, a London Fog Latte. It uses Earl Grey tea with a hint of vanilla.
You can use cashew butter, cashews, almond milk, or homemade oat cream as the base, and you can use the liquid sweetener of your choice to taste. It’s great with dates blended in the mix or date paste added in.
What is a London Fog?
Besides being my favorite drink, it combines Earl Grey tea with steamed vanilla non-dairy milk to make a fluffy cloud that will chase any blues away from your day.
You can make it at home by frothing some vegan vanilla creamer and adding it to some brewed Earl Grey tea.
What does Earl Grey tea taste like?
It starts with a good black tea, with or without caffeine, and I prefer a looseleaf version for a fuller flavor. Then on top of that, bergamot flavor is added.
Even though bergamot is a citrus fruit, I find the flavor intoxicating and a bit floral.
Earl Grey Vegan Ice Cream Recipe
This vegan ice cream recipe uses Earl Grey tea as its base. I add some cashew butter or JOI oat milk powder to make it extra creamy.
You can steep the tea leaves in homemade oat cream or even almond milk if you want. It just takes longer. I use my leftover morning tea to save time and reduce waste.
You can use the sweetener of your choice. I like using a little maple syrup, but you can blend in dates, use date syrup or paste, or any liquid vegan sweetener to taste.
How do I make London fog ice cream without coconut milk?
While there’s nothing wrong with coconut milk, most of us who are whole food plant-based avoid it because it has a lot of fat.
But don’t worry we can make this with nut or oat milk or cream instead.
Just blend the ingredients together, freeze 24 hours, then let sit for 10 – 15 minutes at room temperature and spin on lite ice cream.
If it’s powdery or just not as creamy as you want it, just add a few tablespoons of nondairy milk and use the respin setting. Repeat if needed.
How long will vegan ice creams last in a Ninja Creami pint?
I find that it will last in a Ninja pint container as long as normal vegan ice cream would, about 2 months.
But since some lids fit loosely you may find that the longer it’s in the freezer, the harder it freezes due to some loss of liquid.
All you need to do is leave it out 10 – 15 minutes on your counter before spinning and it should work fine. You will probably need to respin and maybe add a little extra non-dairy milk on respin as well.
How is Ninja Creami different than a blender?
It’s more like a drill press than it is a blender. Because you freeze your ice cream into Ninja Creami pint containers for 24 hours, then spin.
The blade is on a rod that lowers and creamifies your pint at the same time.
Ninja Creami FAQs
I like that I can turn healthy fruits and veggies into a creami treat. I’ve been making smoothie bowls with greens, pineapple dole whip, nice cream, using sweeteners like dates, maple syrup, and even applesauce or pears.
You blend up your mixture, pour it into a Creami pint, then freeze for 24 hours. Spin and possibly respin, and you have a luscious creamy treat that fits into your diet!

You can make whole food plant-based smoothie bowls, all fruit sorbets, sherberts, and vegan ice cream. And you can make milkshakes too!
First off, it’s not your fault and it’s easily fixable. It may be because your freezer is set lower than most, or it could be that your mixture has a higher fruit content and not much fat.
But don’t fret. You just need to use the respin cycle and maybe add a few tablespoons of non-dairy milk.
You can add about 1/4 cup of chopped nuts, chopped chocolate or mini chocolate chip, granola, or other harder mix-ins, then use the mix-in button.
Soft fruit, sauces, and the like will just be incorporated in and won’t swirl using the mix-in setting. You can do that by adding the ice cream to a bowl and folding in a sauce or fruit that way.
You can use fresh, frozen, or canned fruit in your Creami. If it’s frozen, make sure the spaces in between are filled with liquid, so it freezes solid.
When you get canned fruit, ensure it’s in juice and not water. Or drain the water off before using because a higher water content can damage the machine.
Yes – you do not need to eat that whole pint! Just take what you want out, smooth the top flat and refreeze.
You will need to spin on a main setting like lite ice cream or sorbet when you are ready to eat it, then you can use the respin setting if it’s crumbly or powdery.

Plant-based London Fog Ice Cream: A Healthy Ninja Creami Recipe
- 2 cups hot water
- 2 teaspoons loose leaf Early Grey tea – regular or decaf, or 6 teabags (updated from 3 teabags)
- 2 tablespoons cashew butter OR 2 tablespoons JOI oat milk powder, or 1/2 cup oats (you can strain or not)
- 3 dates OR liquid sweetener of choice to taste like maple syrup, date syrup, or simple syrup, etc.
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract OR 1/2 teaspoon vanilla powder
- Steep the tea in the hot water for 5 minutes, then strain into a blender. Let cool and blend everything together.
- Note: If you use whole rolled oats you can strain your mixture or not.
- Pour the mixture into a Ninja Creami pint, mix in the vanilla and add water or non-dairy milk to reach the max fill line. Taste and adjust sweetener if needed.
- Freeze for 24 hours. Spin on the ice cream setting.
- If it’s still powdery use the respin button.
