Ice cream lovers, rejoice! The Ninja Creami ice cream maker has completely revolutionized the way we make vegan ice cream.
I keep being asked if you can you refreeze Ninja Creami ice cream, so I thought I’d give you all the details here.
The Art of Making Ice Cream with Ninja Creami
Frozen desserts from your Ninja Creami are different from ice cream from churning machine. In fact, the process is completely different.
First, you’ll pour your ice cream mixture into a pint. Then into your freezer for 24 hours to ensure it gets frozen through to the core.
Afterward, you put the frozen mixture into the Ninja Creami machine, which breaks down the ice crystals and churns the mixture into a creamy, delectable ice cream, gelato, or sorbet.
So every time the Ninja Creami pint goes back into the freezer, the mixture freezes solid – especially if you are making whole food plant-based recipes. That means you start over each time it comes out of the freezer.
Can You Refreeze Ninja Creami Ice Cream?
Yes, you can refreeze Ninja Creami ice cream. Once you have churned your mixture into a delicious, creamy texture, you may have some left over.
Don’t worry, you can save as little as 1/4 of a pint to spin again and enjoy later.
What Do I Need to Do Before Refreezing?
Just level out your pint and put the lid on, and pop in back in the freezer. It doesn’t matter if you took a few bites or ate up to 3/4 of the Ninja Creami pint.
It can still be cold and creamy or even all the way melted – either way it can be refreezed for another time.
What Setting Do I Use After I Freeze a Second Time?
You will use whatever original setting you used to spin your ice cream. Typically with plant-based blends the lower fat and sugar use sorbet or light ice cream.
After that you may need to add a little more liquid and respin.

Jennifer says
Can I respin my light dairy free ice cream if I have eaten a third of the container? Do I have to add anything or just flatten out the top of the two thirds full contents?
Kathy Hester says
You can repin down to about 1/4 of the container. Flatten out the top before you put it in the freezer. Add extra liquid after the first spin on ice cream/sorbet/etc if needed, then use the respin button.
Donald T Yoneyama says
how many times can you refreeze the ice cream?
Kathy Hester says
There’s no real answer to that. As many as you need.
Claire says
Is there a recipe for those who want to give the ice cream to someone who doesn’t have a creami machine?
Kathy Hester says
I don’t have any like that though some people add glycerin or other additives to make it softer when refrozen.
Gabriella says
Do you have to respin after a refreeze? I want to make it for my grandpa but he doesn’t have a creami and won’t eat it all in one sitting
Kathy Hester says
For a real creamy texture you need to respin after each freeze. In a pinch, like this situation, you could let it defrost until ready to eat, it just won’t have the perfect texture. But it’s better than not having ice cream!
Zuzana says
Have you tried refreezing ice cream with extras? I wanna add cookies but we made too much and I’m afraid we can’t eat it in one sitting. Should I just use ice cream program after refreezing it? I really don’t know what to do.
Kathy Hester says
With mix-ins they will get pulverized into the mix on a second spin. Always start after a second freezing with the original button like light ice cream or sorbet.
