Who doesn’t love a crunchy snack? You can make these air fryer pasta chips with the pasta you have on hand right now.
My seasoning blend makes them taste like cheesy crackers! Best of all there’s a gluten-free option and an oil-free option.
These bow tie chips are so crunchy and remind me of a cheese-cracker. But don’t worry it’s 100% vegan.
The air fryer turns plain old wet pasta into a crunchy treat that is almost like a cracker.
The nooch gives this a cheesy flavor and Italian seasoning gives it an herby flavor too. Don’t have an air fryer yet?

Don’t you just love your air fryer?
I know I do. It makes crispy, crunchy food with little or no oil – yes it’s a great tool for a whole food plant-based diet.
It also heats leftovers to perfection, especially pizza. But did you know that you can bake in it as well?

Can you cook pasta in your air fryer?
I’m pretty sure you’ve guessed the answer is yes. But if you are talking about boiling pasta, the air fryer is not the tool for you.
In this recipe, we half cook the pasta in boiling water before we crisp them in the air fryer.
If you want to bake a lasagna or heat leftover pasta, the air fryer is a winner.
Can I make pasta chips in the oven?
No air fryer? Try baking them in the oven at 375 degrees until crisp. Just make sure to shake them or stir them so they don’t get burned.
Pasta chips recipe:
2 cups dry whole wheat bow tie pasta or use brown rice pasta to make it gluten-free
1 tbsp olive oil or make this oil-free by using Aquafaba to coat instead
1 tbsp nutritional yeast
1 1/2 tsp Italian Seasoning Blend
1/2 tsp salt or salt substitute to taste
How to make pasta chips in air fryer

Just cook the pasta halfway, drain, and toss with the seasoning, then cook for about 10 minutes in your air fryer. Easy peasy!
Be sure to try different seasoning blends to make different flavors.
You sure can! The oil just helps the seasoning blend to stick to the pasta pieces, but Aquafaba works just as great.
Can I use another type of pasta?
You can use any chunky pasta for this recipe but if it’s much thicker you may need to add more cooking time.
Think fusilli, broken lasagna noodles, and any other cool shapes you can find.
Can I make these air fryer chips without oil?
Yes, you can! The only oil that is used is to get the spices to stick and we can use Aquafaba in place of the oil.
I like to keep a spray bottle of Aquafaba in the fridge when I’m doing a ton of air frying 😉
What is aquafaba?
It’s a fancy way of saying bean water. Surprisingly, something I was washing down the sink for years is actually a great vegan egg substitute.
How can I get or make aquafaba?
It’s as easy as saving that liquid from a can of chickpeas or white beans.
If you make your own chickpeas from scratch, just reduce the leftover liquid by half.
I freeze mine in ice cube trays, then transfer it to a resealable plastic bag. You can keep those in the freezer for a month and defrost a cube or two as needed.

Air Fryer Bow Tie Pasta Chips
- 2 cups 152 g dry whole wheat bow tie pasta (*use brown rice pasta to make it gluten-free)
- 1 tbsp 15 ml olive oil (**use aquafaba)
- 1 tbsp 7 g nutritional yeast
- 1 1/2 tsp 3 g Italian Seasoning Blend
- 1/2 tsp salt
- Cook the pasta for 1/2 the time called for on the package. Toss the drained pasta with the olive oil or aquafaba, nutritional yeast, Italian seasoning, and salt.
- Place about half of the mixture in your air fryer basket if yours is small; larger ones may be able to do cook in one batch.
- Cook on 390°F (200°C) for 5 minutes. Shake the basket and cook 3 to 5 minutes more or until crunchy.
- Note: These will crisp up more as they cool.
