Most of the time being a food blogger is experimenting with new foods, creating recipes, taking photos and writing stories. Going to blogger conferences is also a part of blogging.
If you aren’t that interested in conferences, you can go straight to a recipe instead:
- Indian Stuffed Potato Chaat
- Sriracha Avocado Chickpea Salad
- Thai Red Curry Vegetables with Sweet Potato Rice
- Banana Flax Vegan Dog Biscuits
This is blogger conference season, and I’m going to Vida Vegan on Friday. My next stop is Eat Write Retreat in Chicago, then finally I’ll be at the Food and Wine Conference in Orlando where I’m a Brand Ambassador again this year.
These photos are from last year’s Food and Wine Conference. I wish I could take all of you along with me this year to show you how much fun it is!
I have to admit I’m camera shy, but you can see the back of my head above. People squeeze together for a selfie, and I get out of range as fast as I can.
I consider myself an extroverted introvert. That means that I love the time I spend with people, but after a weekend packed full of socialization I need a few days to recuperate.
Cheryl went to visit her parents but came back to spend the last night with me. We got to walk around the property and enjoy the pool before we came home.
Food blogger conferences are more than just fun and games. There is always a swag bag full of goodies like coupons, small gadgets, aprons and food samples. Last year they even left a snack bag right in your hotel room. I loved those Dandy celery sticks with the Peanut Butter & Co, Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter.
There are 2 days of speakers that will give great tips on writing, photography, social media and more. It has a great atmosphere for learning, and I always come home with a new idea or tip I cannot wait to weave into the blog and share!
One thing to remember when you’re at a conference is that everyone is looking to meet new people. If it’s your first time, you’ll be amazed at how fast you make your first friend.
If you’re a little shy, it never hurts to wear a conversation starter. I wear a rocket necklace that I made in a metal work class and my friend, Jamie Schler, went with a tiara.
Remember that it’s not high school and that while some clumps of people may seem like cliques, it’s more likely they are a group of old friends that are open to meeting new people – including you!
I made a bunch of new friends last year at the Food and Wine Conference and can’t wait to see them again and to meet my soon to be new friends!
