Vegan Almond “Parmesan”

noFeatured

When people find out I’m vegan one of the first things they say to me is they could never give up dairy. They don’t realize that there are alternatives to keep that cheesy flavor in their lives even without involving a cow.

Strawberry Basil Mini Donuts

Strawberry Basil Mini Donuts

Lucky for me the first strawberries of the year already showed up at the farmers market and made their way into these bold donuts.  The next batch I’m getting is to going to be made into some strawberry vodka for a few herb cocktails on the deck. I love Spring!

Slow Cooker Red Velvet Tea Tapioca Pudding

IMAG1740

Tapioca is not a pretty food, but there’s something wonderful when you bite into those mini spheres. Slightly gooey but matched with its creamy almond milky pudding it becomes the perfect texture. Straight from the fridge it’s my favorite hot afternoon snack in the summer. In the summer the last thing I want to do is put a pot of anything […]

Orange Blossom Water + Green Tea Cheap-o-chino

IMAG1724

While some people avoid the “perfumy” flavors of rosewater, orange blossom water and lavender I just love them. In fact, I use them as much as I can. At one of my favorite restaurants, La Shish in Cary, I get this amazing drink called Lebanese ice tea. It’s a mix of lemon juice, sugar, and black tea with a little something special. […]

Sun Dried Tomato Eggplant Spread

with mint 400-2

Summer is just around the corner and it’s a good time to collect a few hot-weather recipes. This spread is a great alternative to cooking a full meal on a hot day or the perfect appetizer at your next cocktail party. It goes well on crostini, crackers, and even as a spread on a sandwich. […]

Cardamom Rose Cheap-o-chino

IMAG1699

You guys know I tend to get on a tangent and now I can’t stop making frozen coffees. I guess it’s too warm to re-start my oatmeal obsession and they are so much better than you-know-who’s. Since the CSA has been making veggies magically apear at my house so I haven’t gone to the farmers […]

Roasted Asparagus Salad with Mint Balsamic Dressing

salad2

If you made vegan hot cross buns this weekend and are lucky enough to have one or two leftover you need to make croutons with them for this salad. They are light and just a hint sweet which goes great with the strawberry and asparagus combination.

A Vegan at Disney World – Crystal Palace

castle1

The main reason I was in Orlando a few weeks ago was for Food Blog Forum. My partner and I bookended the conference with a little vacation. At first I was a little worried, because the last time I went to Disney I was a vegetarian. I wasn’t sure what was in store for me as […]

DIY All Natural Vegan Carrot Dogs

carrotDog

In keeping with my cheap theme this week, these are the least expensive vegan hot dogs you may ever eat. Organic carrots are always affordable and you can even get some at your farmers market soon if not right now! This may sound like one of my weirdest recipes, but trust me, it really works. […]

DIY Orange Green Tea Cheap-o-chino

IMAG1685

Here’s another green tea variation, this time a little closer to you-know-who’s. The color of this one  is a faint green, though it didn’t capture well in the photos. You could also throw in some Swiss Chard or Kale to get a darker (and healthier) green.
