Healthy Holiday Giveaway – TofuXpress

The TofuXpress is one of my favorite kitchen tools. I just added it to my arsenal this year, but it’s up there with my immersion blender! I was skeptical at first, but now that I use it all the time I wouldn’t want to be without it.

I don’t know about you, but here’s how I was pressing tofu: a cast iron pan on top of a cutting board with something else added in for weight. Then I would stand there to make sure nothing was going to fall on my dog.
(Somehow Brenna, my dog, senses the danger and makes sure to lay up against a counter next to where I place my tower of tofu pressing.) So it wasn’t pleasant, though I’ve gotten really good at catching pans as they get unbalanced and fall off. But it that really anyway to live when you can just put it in this device?

It’s unbelievably easy to use. There is a super-strong spring that puts the pressure on the tofu to express the liquid. It also does it in half the time.

The TofuXpress is a little expensive at $39.95, but it very well made. I don’t expect to have to buy another one for myself, but I will be getting a few as gifts. And if you put it on your Holiday gift list it won’t cost you a dime ; )

They also have tofu recipes on their site if you need some inspiration.

Enter this giveaway and you may just win your own TofuXpress!

You will get one entry for each task you do as long as you enter a new comment for each one on this blog post. I’ll announce the winner Friday.

  22. I love baked tofu, and although I’ve never pressed it before baking, I can see the difference it would make. I also wait to catch things before they land on my dog!

  23. I have been coveting one of these handy dandy thingies for ages – pressing tofu under a tower of kitchen stuffs is dangerous business :) I mostly do a plain old stir fry with my pressed tofu – but I also like to grill it too. Awesome giveaway idea!

  24. I like TofuXpress on Facebook :D

  25. I like TofuExpress on Twitter :)

  26. I tweeted ;)

  27. My favorite way to use pressed tofu is marinating it and then baking it. I made Latin Baked Tofu and loved it. Marinated pressed tofu is excellent!

  28. My favorite way to enjoy pressed tofu is Terry Hope Romero’s Latin Baked Tofu from Viva Vegan. It doesn’t need to be marinated before baking, and it’s deliciously spicy and flavorful.

  29. I’m always squishing my tofu inside a kitchen dishtowel. If I have time, I build one of those heavy squishing-towers you illustrated, and yes I have had several instances of a heavy can sproinging off the tower and onto the floor. I would use the TofuXpress for marinated tofus, and for the tofu I put in gravies and in lettuce wraps. If it were properly pressed, it would pick up the flavour that much better.

  30. My favorite way to use pressed tofu is to make “paneer” and create yummy Saag Paneer for dinner!

  31. I am now a TofuXpress fan on FB. Interesting page!

  32. And look. Now I’m following them on twitter.

  33. I am a fan of TofuXpress on Facebook! :)

  34. I have liked TofuExpress on my Facebook!

  35. sarah garvey says:

My favorite way to eat pressed tofu is to just bake it and add it in a wrap. I’ve never gotten the whole marinating thing right, so this seems to be a pretty simple way to do it. I’d really like to start trying real recipes though!

  36. sarah garvey says:

I became a fan of the tofu press on facebook!

  37. I eat tofu at least 3 times a week. My favorite (easy) way to make it is to cube it, lightly brown it in oil in a skillet, then toss with some teriyaki sauce from trader joes, drain excess, and bake in the oven at 375 for about 20 minutes. Makes it very chewy and yummy. My kids go crazy for it. You can also use bbq sauce instead of teriyaki. I learned this secret “double-cook” technique from Cafe Yumm when I asked how they made their bbq tofu so tasty.

  42. I just broke my brita pitcher this week using it as a weight to press my tofu. My husband had previously cautioned me against doing this, so I didn’t mention *how* it came to fall onto the floor and break, just that it did. :)

  43. I have actually never used pressed tofu before — but I would make it in a stir fry! :)

  44. I always use big tomato cans to press! I love to dip the pressed tofu in olive oil, tamari, and nooch, and roast at high heat. I make this every week!

  45. I liked TofuExpress on Facebook. :)

  46. My favorite way to use pressed tofu is definitely in stir fries.

  47. Love marinating tofu then pan-frying

  48. Following TofuXpress on twitter

  49. I love marinating pressed tofu, then baking it. It makes a great, simple dinner (baked tofu with brown rice and maybe some cooked broccoli). And—assuming there are any leftovers, which is not always the case—the leftover baked tofu is fabulous in sandwiches, cut up into stir fries, or just grabbed from the fridge as a snack. I don’t make it as often as I’d like simply because I have to think ahead a bit to press it… This press sounds fabulous, and I’d love to give it a try!

  50. Following TofuXpress now and forever!!!!

  51. By the way, I just became a Facebook fan of TofuXpress… now I have to try NOT to browse through their recipes instead of getting on with my work day! :)

  62. I’ll be honest, I have no favorite way because using pressed tofu has never worked out right…I don’t think i press it enough :P So if I win, I’ll be able to FINALLY make a recipe right!

  83. I love the picture of all the heavy materials stacked on top of the tofu. HA! That is *exactly* what it looks like at my house. I am currently enjoying eggless salad as a good use for tofu :)
